An artist film and ongoing research project exploring how rising human and industrial demand for water is affecting the waterscape of the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen. Set within this changing landscape,
and under the extractive and polluting presence of Tata Steel, this film unfolds as a layered assemblage of underwater and landscape imagery, seismic earth resonances, and aquatic sound recordings. These
different perspectives move between the visible landscape and the processes taking place beneath its surface, tracing water extraction, ecological pressure and the gradual transformation of the dunes.
As of 2025, the Netherlands is facing an increasingly severe water crisis. Climate change, prolonged periods of drought, and growing demand for drinking and industrial process water are placing unprecedented pressure on freshwater systems. With 99% of Dutch surface waters failing to meet required ecological and chemical standards, water is becoming increasingly scarce and more vulnerable.
By shifting attention away from a human-centered perspective towards the perspective of water itself, the work approaches water not as a passive resource, but as a living ecosystem. Through its submerged perspective, sound and movement, the film creates a sensory environment in which water becomes an active force with its own rhythms, histories and vulnerabilities.
